A worthwhile, sobering read for anybody with notions and dreams of an app. It’s easy to play Monday-morning quarterback on this and pick what they did wrong. But, what’s harder to measure is how the passion for an idea fueled these guys. They had an idea and pursued it relentlessly.
In Kurt Vonnegut’s book Player Piano, the only thing in the world that has not been automated is the relationship with a bartender. There’s something to be said for certain human contacts and perhaps this is where the passion to create the product diverged from the reality.
It’s sad to see a passion-play like this succumb and kudos to the pricipals for being so transparent about it.
